DISCO Graduate Scholar Lightning Talks
By Veronica Thomas
As part of our DISCO Summer Launch in May 2022, our DISCO Graduate Scholars gave lightning talks on themes across digital culture, all of them centering and complicating narratives of marginalized people and technology. Our co-PIs proposed feedback drew out these connections even more so, demonstrating how this work is relevant and important in the current moment.
What if collaborative humanities research became the new norm? What if community was the priority of research and learning? We hope our DISCO Graduate Scholar program is a step in this direction. The program is designed for graduate student researchers at our partner campuses who are committed to developing interdisciplinary work in collaboration with our co-principal investigators. Throughout the year, we hosted internal programming, intimate space for digital scholars across disciplines and ages.
Our official launch took place just in time to celebrate the thoughtful and generative research of our Graduate Scholars, many of whom recently finished their PhD programs and are on to new opportunities. You can watch their lightning talks here. We will welcome a new cohort of DISCO Graduate Scholars in Fall 2022 and are excited to grow our community!
